The Myerson Elastic Mandibular Advancement (EMA) appliance is a FDA-approved, simple, patient friendly oral appliance used for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, and in cases where CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) has not been tolerated. Its simple design, stability, and ability to easily adjust the appliance through the interchangeable elastic straps, makes it convenient and comfortable for the patient.

The primary treatment mechanism of opening the bite and gently moving the mandible forward is achieve with the use of occlusal bite pads and the interchangeable elastic straps that offer varying degrees of mandibular advancement. This positioning of the mandible causes a forward movement of the tongue which re-opens the air flow through the oral pharynx (back of the throat). The flexibility of the elastic straps provides lateral movement and overall TMJ comfort.

What makes our EMA different from the rest?

Thermoplastic Dental Resin
The EMA has advantages not found in other oral appliances, such as: you can talk and drink water while wearing it, and the EMA is made out of a clear thermoplastic material. The material makes the EMA 100% monomer and nylon free,
strong, exible and stain resistant.

Long-Term Stability
The EMA appliance also offers long-term stability due to the full occlusal coverage on both arches. The 2.0 mm thick pressure-formed bases oer orthodontic retention (resulting in no tooth movement) and maximum anterior tongue space because there are no projections in the palate.

Elastic Straps
The latex-free elastic straps oer a varying degree of elasticity that allows the jaw to move in all directions. This freedom of movement of the mandible significantly reduces the occurrence of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) and the pain associated with similar appliances. The straps come in four levels of elasticity – soft, medium, rm and extra rm. Additionally, the straps are available in nine varying lengths. The flexibility of the elastic bands allow for individualization of your patient’s  treatment, and the ability for quick and easy adjustments to provide optimum results, with no additional trips to the dentist.
